Durban police officer still at work after threatening to shoot commander

A Durban police officer has yet to face any disciplinary action despite threatening to shoot and kill his commanding officer.

The warrant officer is facing charges of attempted murder and assault after pointing his firearm at his commander.

The incident occurred at Durban North police station last week.

It is understood that the officer stormed into his commander’s office, locked the door behind him, spat in the face of his superior before cocking his firearm and pointing it at his commanding officer.

A captain who was present at the time attempted to intervene and was assaulted by the warrant officer with the butt of the firearm.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed charges of attempted murder and assault had been opened against the officer.

“The matter is still under investigation,” Netshiunda said.

It is understood the officer remains at work.
