Durban closes beaches amid COVID-19 outbreak

The eThekwini municipality has taken several measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. The measures include the closing of beaches, swimming pools, libraries and museums. The city has also suspended the Africa Tourism Indaba scheduled for May. The COVID-19 pandemic is set to cost Durban more than R700-million in lost revenue and more than 2,000 jobs are on the line.
“We are also identifying recovery plans to ensure that beyond this situation the economy will be able to recover from the losses that we have experienced,” said eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
