Cape Town Metro Cop killed in drive-by shooting

A Cape Town Metro Police officer has been killed in a drive-by shooting.

The incident happened on Friday night while the officer was transporting staff home.

But the city is not confirming if the shooting is linked to the ongoing taxi strike.

“Sadly last night one of our law enforcement officers was the victim of a drive-by shooting,” said Safety and Security MMC JP Smith.

“I’m afraid that puts us in a situation where we have to understand what the nature of that hit was.”

The crippling strike enters its third day as thousands of commuters struggle with transport.
