COVID-19: DR Zweli Mkhize concerned about the number of beds

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said the surge in COVID-19 cases is outpacing the department’s ability to secure more beds. The minister visited various healthcare facilities in the Western Cape on Monday.

Government says it is dealing with the issue of a lack of nurses and encouraged pensioners to come out of retirement. Mkhize also said a shortage of testing kits is hindering the Western Cape from accelerating testing

The Western Cape is the epicentre of the virus in South Africa and is now projected to need 7,800 additional beds for COVID-19 infected patients.
