Dr Nandipha remains in custody as bail is denied

Nandipha Magudumana‘s bail application has been dismissed. The Bloemfontein magistrate’s court handed down judgment on Monday. Magistrate Estelle de Lange said the court was guided by certain factors in its decision. I find that the applicant is a definite flight risk and that no bail application will assist under the circumstances to limit this risk.
“After weighing up the personal circumstances and the interests of the applicant and her constitutional right against the freedom of justice, I find she did not satisfy the court that it is in the interest of justice for her to be released on bail,” De Lange said.
“It is, however, in the interest of justice that matters be tried and that the verdict be obtained in a court of law and this can only happen if a person stands trial.” Therefore, her application to be released on bail is refused.
