Over R52 million worth of assets linked to dodgy PPE tenders seized by SUI, AFU & Hawks

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU), together with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the Hawks, have seized more than R52 million worth of assets linked to dodgy COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders in Mpumalanga.

An investigation by the SIU has revealed that senior management officials from the province’s Department of Public Works allegedly scored massive kickbacks in exchange for awarding the tenders to suppliers who didn’t deliver on their mandates.

Those implicated are now facing criminal charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering.

The SIU’s Kaizer Kganyago said the order covers assets in Mpumalanga, Gauteng, North West, and Western Cape.

“The operation includes serving orders at 34 locations and capturing inventories of 29.”
