DJ Skinny Deep shot and killed
Another famous Tshwane DJ has been shot and killed next to Giant Stadium in Soshanguve, Tshwane, on Monday, 29 January, at about 7 pm.
This after popular DJ Vettys was also shot on Monday, 29 January on his way to a gig at Ayepyep Sunnyside (now Top Notch Lifestyle) in Tshwane.
DJ Skinny Deep’s family said they were shocked by the incident.
His uncle, Michael Maluleka (53), said they don’t believe that his nephew is no more.
“We are still in pain. We want justice for my nephew and those who killed him to be found and to rot in jail,” he said.
DJ Skinny Deep, whose real name was Duduetsang Gift Maluleka (32), was from Block U in Mabopane.
He is reported to have been picked up by someone at home at about 11am and the family was shocked to hear that he had been shot dead by thugs.
His gogo Dorothy Maluleka (74) said that her grandson told her that he was going to Ga-Rankuwa with his friend and would be back.
“He always goes out a lot, but I never thought he will never come back home alive,” she said.
Gogo said his friend broke the news to them at night.
“I didn’t sleep the whole night, and I’m still weak. We were very close,” she said.
Skinny Deep’s grieving mother, Kedibone Maluleka (50), was still too weak to talk.
His friend Diokeng Seshweni (27) said he loved barcadi and amapiano.
“On Monday at about 6pm, he called me and told me he is coming to see me,” he said.
Diokeng said it was horrible to witness his friend’s body lying on the ground after he was shot.
He said DJ Skinny Deep was a motivational speaker.
The shooting involved another individual, currently hospitalised, whose identity remains unknown.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said there’s an ongoing investigation into the murder and attempted murder case. She said the victims were attacked at a filling station in Soshanguve Block K.
Nevhuhulwi said one victim died on the scene while the other sustained injuries.
“The motive of the shooting is unknown, and no suspects have been arrested as yet,” she said.
