Discovery Health announces contribution increases of 7.4% to 10.9% for 2025

It’s that time of year when medical schemes announce their premium increases for 2025.
Discovery Health Medical Scheme has revealed that contribution hikes will range from 7.4% to 10.9%, depending on the chosen plan.
All members can look forward to a new benefits package and personalized health programme.
Here are the key changes:
Affordable Access to Healthcare: Concerns have been raised about the number of Gen Z professionals in South Africa who do not belong to medical schemes. In response, Discovery is introducing a new medical plan called “Active Smart” specifically designed for young professionals in 2025.
Sustainability of the Scheme: The premium increase is necessary to keep pace with industry trends. According to Kotze, without these adjustments, the scheme would have to either reduce benefits or face potential failure. However, he emphasizes that they are enhancing benefits, particularly in areas such as women’s health and mental health.
Precision Healthcare: The focus is on investing in the health of members, with incentives for those actively engaging in their wellness journey.
Discovery Health Chief Commercial Officer, Deon Kotze:
“We are concerned about many Gen Z’s in the working population in South Africa not belonging to medical schemes.”
