Dirco blames criminals for xenophobic attacks

The government has assured representatives of African countries that their nationals are not being targeted.

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Lindiwe Sisulu, led a meeting with ambassadors.

The meeting is scheduled to continue on Friday as the South African Police Service has asked for more time to investigate the recent spate of attacks.

The deputy minister of International Relations says fake news is making it difficult for authorities.

Two people have been killed and hundreds have been displaced following a flare-up of attacks against Malawian nationals last week in KwaZulu-Natal.
