Prosecutors in the Deveney Nel murder case in Caledon said that they intended on opposing bail should her alleged killer apply.
A 17-year-old boy is accused of killing the 16-year-old girl in a knife attack in August.
Her body was found locked in a storeroom at the Overberg High School during a sports day event.
It’s understood that the pair had long been friends and attended the same school.
The teen, who cannot be named because of his age, is not seeking bail at the moment and is being kept in a place of safety.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s Eric Ntabazalila said that they’d also received a memorandum from a civil society organization also motivating for bail to be opposed.
“We are keeping that memorandum in case he applies for bail. We will use that memorandum to back our case, otherwise we will oppose his application for bail.”
Prosecutors said that they needed more time to finalize their case and the matter has been postponed to 16 October.
