Banyana Banyana coach after Chile game – we deserved more

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis feels they deserved to win their friendly international against Chile on Tuesday.

Banyana twice squandered their lead in the 2-2 draw against the South Americans in Santiago, after they lost the first friendly 2-1. Ellis says the result was not a true reflection of the game.

“I felt we deserved to win. We created opportunities, we created so many opportunities and we could have scored in the first minute. We got our tactics, had a lot of possession and they never really threatened. I don’t think the score-line was a true reflection of the game,” she said after the game.

“A lot of decisions did not go our way. A lot that should have gone our way did not go our way. But it was a performance where we looked at the opponents and analysed the first match. We were prepared for anything.

I thought we were well organised in defence, in midfield and attack as well. But most of the chances you have to put away. I am very proud of the performance and I think the players can also be proud of the performance.”

Banyana’s next assignment will be the 2019 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana from November 24 to December 1.
