Deputy Health Minister says Limpopo MEC Phophi Ramathuba is not xenophobic

The Health Department does not believe it’s Limpopo MEC Phophi Ramathuba is xenophobic. It comes as a video of her chastising a foreigner in a local hospital causes a stir on social media. But Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo says she should not have raised her concerns with the patient.
He also says the demand for local health services shows the system is not as broken as many claim it is.
That we do not have the accurate figures does not mean that is a perception, absolutely not. We can give you for a fact, real, doctors who treat those patients in across Limpopo and Gauteng can give you the stats,” he said.
“I didn’t come here with the stats ready for you, but I’m saying that is not a perception. It is actually true. That there are patients all over the SADC who will seek better healthcare elsewhere than where they are.
“We need to discuss and find out that at a policy level how that is harmonised across all countries in SADC.”
