DENOSA wants next government to invest more in nurses, hike pay & improve working conditions

Nursing union DENOSA has called on the incoming government to improve nurses’ pay, invest in young nurses, and improve their working conditions.

The organization remembered 41 people, including 11 nurses, who lost their lives on Christmas Eve in 2022, when a gas tanker exploded after getting stuck under a low bridge in Boksburg.

The blast caused huge structural damage to the Tambo Memorial Hospital’s accident, emergency and X-ray departments.

DENOSA Gauteng secretary, Bongani Mazibuko, outlined several measures that would improve the sector’s functionality.

“If we are going to have a functional healthcare system, let us pay our nurses better, let us review OMD, and make it more attractive to attract more youngsters who come into nursing. Let us make sure that those who are in the system get proper qualifications to stay longer and make the working conditions much more attractive.”
