Denosa calls for greater protection of nurses

Denosa is due to meet Netcare officials to address the issue of protecting healthcare workers. The organisation says its members are being put at risk. Denosa has on Monday raised safety concerns around its members’ working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Denosa said it isn’t surprising that 17 frontline healthcare workers in KwaZulu-Natal have contracted coronavirus.

The organisation was due to meet Netcare officials on Monday to address the issue of protecting healthcare workers. It says its members are being put at risk. The union claims one medical doctor at St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban was allowed to work even after testing positive for COVID-19.

Denosa KZN spokesperson Mandla Shabangu said so far the union has been corresponding with Netcare via email and will be meeting with them in person to see how the private sector is protecting their members.
