Mpumalanga Hawks nab suspect for defrauding Delmas school of R2.6 million

The Directorate for Priority Crime Prevention (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, in Mpumalanga, has arrested a suspect for fraud in Delmas.

It’s understood the suspect defrauded her employer, Delmas Primary School, of an amount of R2.6 million.

According to the Hawks, the woman was appointed by the school as a financial officer.

The Mpumalanga Hawks’s spokesperson, Dineo Sekgotodi, said the suspect had been paying herself unauthorised bonuses.

“During further investigation, it was discovered that from 04 March 2023 to 02 November 2023, an amount of R2 665 007.34 was paid out from the school bank account to four Capitec bank account numbers belonging to the suspect.”

The suspect is currently in custody and will appear in the Delmas Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of fraud.
