Alleged Dekhta kidnappers face additional charges

More charges have been added against the seven men charged with the kidnapping of eight-year-old Abira Dekhta.

These include a charge of child pornography.

They are also being charged under the Provisions of Organised Crime Act, which is a Schedule Six offence.

This means they’ll need to prove exceptional circumstances as to why they should be granted bail.

Abira was kidnapped on her way to school on 4 October.

She was rescued eleven days later from a house in Khayelitsha.

The men have been remanded in custody until their next appearance on 13 December.
