Award-winning Gqom group Dbn Nyts has been dropping members like bad habits. These were the words of the SunTeam’s informants, who said the Shumaya hitmakers were no more.
In 2010, Dbn Nyts came on to the music scene with five members, including Lwazi Yokwana, Samkele Maphumulo, Wanda Shabalala, Kabelo Pekile and Cebo Ngcobo.
Last year, two members (Lwazi and Samkele) were fired following a dispute, the moles said.
And today, sources claimed the group is dead.
This after lead member Wanda “Choco” Shabalala’s rumoured decision to call it quits.
Insiders claimed he decided to leave Dbn Nyts to pursue a solo career.
Choco released a statement and urged event organisers and promoters to work with him.
Read the statement: “It’s time to expand my brand and spread my wings. I’m officially taking off my solo career to become La Choco. Guys, I really need your help to rock with me. My mixes will be uploaded on all social media platforms, promising nothing but good music and killer vibes like I always do.”
Sources close to Dbn Nyts said Choco was ambitious.
Said the mole: “He always complained about the other two members not pulling their weight.
“We know they parted ways with Kalawa Jazmee, which ensured they got bookings. So, their well of money had run dry.”
When called for comment, Choco said: “Yes, indeed I’m venturing into a solo career.”
Cebo said Choco has responsibilities and wished him the best.
