Witzenberg Municipality: Reports of dam walls collapsing in Wolseley false

Reports circulating warnings that dam walls in La Plasaint in Wolseley are collapsing are false.

The Witzenberg Municipality’s disaster team said that no known structural issues or problems had been reported, as indicated on social media platform X.

Several roads in the region passing over the Bree River in Wolseley like Slanghoek Pass, where commuters are stopping to take photos before making a U-turn, have been closed throughout the region due to flooding.

Despite this, the municipality’s head of disaster management, Annelize Lamprecht-Vurtue, has refuted claims of a dam wall collapse in the area.

At the moment, emergency teams are assessing the Nduli Dam wall, which has been reported to be overflowing.

Emergency services in Wolseley have urged residents to stay at home and avoid traveling.
