DA to seek leave to appeal ANC cadre deployment ruling
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will seek to leave to appeal the judgment of the High Court in Pretoria in which the party’s application to have the African National Congress’ (ANC) cadre deployment policy declared unconstitutional was dismissed.
The ruling comes just after the DA’s victory in the Constitutional Court last week.
In that ruling, the court ordered the ANC to hand over its cadre deployment records to the opposition party. The governing party complied with the court order.
Handing down the order of the full bench, Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba says, “The order of the court is as follows: 1. The application is dismissed with costs. The costs include in respect of the first and the third respondents, the cost of five counsel with one senior counsel. 2. In respect of the fourth to fifth respondent, the cost of two counsels including one senior counsel and in respect of the sixth respondent, two counsels with one senior. I hand down the judgment.”
Addressing the media outside court this morning, DA leader John Steenhuisen says, “Cadre deployment is not a victimless crime. Every time the lights go off and a factory is shut down, it’s a result of this evil system
