AfriForum lauds dismissal of govt bid to overturn interdict on Cuba donation

AfriForum welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal’s (SCA) dismissal of the government’s application for leave to appeal an interdict the organization secured last March halting a planned R50 million donation to Cuba.
The interdict, which was issued by the Pretoria High Court, puts the donation on ice, pending the outcome of a review application that AfriForum launched, currently pending before the courts.
The SCA on Tuesday found an appeal had no prospects of success and that there were no other compelling reasons to hear an appeal, dismissing the application with costs.
AfriForum’s Charne Mostert said the government’s focus should be on its own people.
“The court ruling upholds fiscal responsibility, directing resources to alleviate poverty in South Africa. AfriForum stands unwavering in addressing outrageous and wasteful expenditure by the government.”
