He’s always been a guy who knows how to spring surprises. Within six months of dating, he popped the question and eight months later they were married. On their wedding day nine years ago Natalie Maimane knew that life with her husband wouldn’t be dull. So today they are still going strong and loving each.

Natalie Maimane is like any woman, much more than just her husband’s wife. When you are married to someone as well known as the leader of the DA, though, people tend to forget that. Mmusi has plenty of time in the limelight, for now, let’s focus on Natalie and her story.

“He was my best friend… plus he’s hot,” Natalie Maimane in 2015 when asked about her relationship with Mmusi.
With Natalie often being asked about her “mixed-race” relationship in South Africa, she believes that ending racism is not about “not seeing colour”.
“It’s not about not seeing colour, it’s about seeing one another and understanding the history where that person comes from. Making space for that person and finding commonality in that space. You can’t just ignore that part of the person’s identity, because it’s related to a whole social aspect in our country.
