President Ramaphosa worried about Gauteng COVID-19 wave

President Cyril Ramaphosa is deeply worried about Gauteng. The province is at the epicentre of COVID-19 in the country.

It’s recorded over 6,000 new cases in the past 24 hours.

“We are seeing infection rates that seem to be much higher than before,” the president said.

“Premier [David] Makhura is dealing with this challenge as best as he can and I know that the Acting Minister of Health is involved.

“We are involved in a very, very serious situation in Gauteng.”

Ramaphosa said the National Coronavirus Command Council will meet soon to decide whether to implement more stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus.
