Salim Abdool Karim says SA ready to lift some COVID-19 restrictions

South Africa is ready to drop some restrictions. That’s the view of the former head of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19, Salim Abdool Karim.
He says sanitising and the use of masks outdoors can be stopped. But, he says some restrictions will have to remain in place.
It’s been exactly two years since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in the country. I don’t know what government’s plans are with removing masks but what we’ve seen from other countries is that we have reached a stage where we can change our overall strategy, we can remove most of our restrictions and public health measures at this point,” Karim said.
