COVID-19 in SA: Shortage of oxygen a concern – Health Minister Zweli Mkhize

Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize admits the shortage of oxygen is a new reality facing healthcare facilities. This follows his site visits at various hospitals in Gauteng.

He says his department is working against the clock to ensure oxygen is available for COVID-19 patients.

“Even the oxygen manufacturing plants are under a lot of pressure but we need oxygen. We need oxygen in all the hospitals, we need oxygen at casualty, at the outpatients, we need oxygen in district hospitals, we need oxygen everywhere and we are trying to do our best to make sure that the oxygen is available,” he said.

On Monday, the health minister announced just over 9,000 new infections in the last 24-hours.

He said there has been a 23-per cent drop in cases compared to the previous week.
