COVID-19 in SA: 8,561 new cases, 28 deaths reported

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 8,561 new COVID-19 infections recorded in the past 24 hours.
Gauteng accounts for 6,168 of the new cases. The Northern Cape recorded the lowest number of cases at 36. A further 28 people have died from COVID-19 related complications, taking the death toll to 89,871.
The positivity rate currently stands at 16.5 percent and 51,977 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours.
