
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize says the majority of COVID-19 cases in South Africa are mild. Mkhize says only 241 of the infected people across the country are currently in hospital. Just 36 patients are in ICU.
The Health Minister also says 80% of those who test positive don’t need serious medical attention, and many can be treated at home. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 3,034. That’s an increase of 251.
Fifty-two people have died. Mkhize says over 100,000 tests have been conducted, mostly in the private sector.
Gauteng remains the epicentre for the virus. The minister announced these figures during a virtual media briefing.
