Durban school investigated for COVID-19 contraventions

A Durban school is under fire for allegedly allowing pupils to enter and write exams even if they’re COVID-19 positive.

Police are investigating a contravention of Disaster Management Act regulations at Solvista Secondary in Phoenix.

“The case was escalated to the district office and it was further taken up to Head Office,” said Barney Mthembu, the acting KZN Education HoD.

“Legal services are dealing with the matter, preparing to go to the school to start the investigation.”

The department stated that there are provisions that can be made for pupils who need to write exams that are COVID-19 positive and are able to do so, but under no circumstances should those pupils come in contact with other people at the school.
