COVID-19: Construction sector warns of job losses

The construction industry has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s announcement of an economic stimulus package to deal with the effects of COVID-19 but warned job losses are on the horizon. The SA Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors says the lockdown could lead to over 100,000 job losses over the next 18 months.

Webster Mfebe, CEO of Safcec, said the Presidential Infrastructure Coordination Commission should stimulate the sector but they are still anticipating a reduction in working operations for the next six months.
