Gauteng to add more beds as COVID-19 cases surge

Gauteng hopes to have 15,000 more beds for COVID-19 patients by the middle of August. Health MEC, Bandile Masuku, says the province currently has 9,000 beds.
The province has seen a surge in cases recently and is expecting a peak between August and September. We are bracing ourselves for a peak. We are not yet there,” said Masuku.
“The numbers are just showing us that this is an expected peak, the expected increase we were actually planning in terms of modelling,” said Masuku.
Masuku said field hospitals are being set up to increase the number of available beds. The provincial government is confident the province will be ready. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4pm, Monday to Friday
