Over 1,200 COVID-19 cases in mines

At least 1,229 mineworkers have tested positive for COVID-19. The Minerals Council says 458 of them have already recovered. Testing in the industry currently stands at almost three percent  higher than the national average. The council has been briefing Parliament’s Minerals Resources and Energy Committee on Friday.

The majority of positive cases so far 584 are in the gold sector. The platinum industry has also recorded over 500 cases. Less than 100 cases have been reported in coal.
