1 679 new COVID-19 cases, 44 deaths recorded in SA

1,679 new cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours. Six more COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded in the last 24 to 48 hours.
Due to a backlog in reporting, an additional 38 deaths have been recorded, taking the country’s official death toll beyond the 100,000 mark.
Gauteng continues to lead in infections, with 680 cases. It’s followed by the Western Cape with 364 new infections.
KwaZulu-Natal is sitting on 350 cases. The Eastern Cape is sitting on 86 infections and the rest of the provinces recorded below 50 cases.
The positivity rate stands at 6.4 percent and 26,104 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours.
