Sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Gauteng

Gauteng’s COVID-19 infections have jumped sharply in the last 24-hours.
The province recording 1,018 new coronavirus cases.
Gauteng has contributed the vast majority of the country’s total of 1,275 new infections.
It’s not immediately clear what sparked this spike.
Earlier this week, the City of Tshwane blamed a cluster outbreak at the University of Pretoria for its increase in COVID-19 cases.
The Western Cape recorded 61 new infections on Wednesday.
It’s followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 44, and North West with 43.
Limpopo has 27 new confirmed cases and Mpumalanga 26.
The test positivity rate has increased to 3.6 percent, while sadly 22 more people have died due to COVID-19 complications.
