COVID-19: Calls to shut down 12 KZN schools

School Governing Bodies in Chatsworth in KwaZulu-Natal are calling for the closure of 12 schools in the area. This follows reports of COVID-19 infections in two schools in less than a week.
“We are saying, we can’t allow for kids to become another statistic,” said SGB spokesperson Brandon Pillay.
You can’t allow for an increase because we know we are about to reach a peak and as a precautionary measure, other schools within the zone should close. Pillay says children’s safety is a priority and has encouraged parents to consider keeping their children at home.
Thousands of Grade 7 and 12 pupils returned to school this week after more than two months away from their desks. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
