Zandile Gumede corruption trial to resume on Monday

The fraud and corruption trial against former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and 21 others will resume at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban on Monday.

Gumede and her co-accused are facing a litany of charges, including fraud, corruption, and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act.

This relates to the awarding of a Durban Solid Waste tender worth over R300-million.

The state alleges Gumede acted with a common purpose to manipulate procurement processes but Gumede maintains the charges against her are politically motivated.

She was elected chairperson of the ANC’s biggest eThekwini regions in 2022.
