The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) is heeding President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for no gatherings of over 100 people due to the coronavirus pandemic. The church cancelled its annual Moria pilgrimage which was set to take place over the Easter weekend. It says it made the decision last week, after meeting Health Minister Zweli Mkhize. The ZCC gathering over the Easter weekend in Moria attracts millions of people.
“This is a pandemic which at the end of the day touches the lives of the people. The ZCC has postponed this year’s annual pilgrimage in Moria due to the coronavirus,” said spokesperson, Reverend Emmanuel Motolla. The leader took the decision on Friday after the church leadership was briefed by national government delegation by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
“We are definitely going to comply to the figure quoted by our president. Will make sure that the church that the church leadership in each and every district or branch conforms to the right number where people should be together. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has risen to 85 with 23 new cases that have been reported.
