Consumers warned to brace for higher maize and wheat prices

Prepare to pay more for your favourite breakfast cereals and snacks. Pioneer Foods is warning that prices will continue to rise, and there is little it can do to cushion consumers.
The cost of wheat and maize has dramatically increased since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The producer of Weet-Bix and Sasko says the prices of locally produced pasta, wheat flour, breakfast cereals and snacks will be affected by the ongoing war.
Recently, the Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Group said there was a nearly 3 percent increase in the Household Food Basket and warned the worst is yet to come.
