Construction of D4 road in Limpopo to resume next week

The construction of the D4 road, linking the town of Elim and the N1 near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, is expected to resume next week. Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) announced that the project, valued at R19 million, was halted due to the use of poor-quality materials.
Community members blockaded local intersections in protest over the slow progress and demanded the project’s completion. RAL Chief Executive Officer Gabriel Maluleke confirmed that the correct materials will soon be deployed to the site.
Maluleke says, “When our engineers did an inspection on the base material of the D4 road recently, they picked up that there was a problem with the quality of the material and they had to stop the project.”
He adds: “They have since intervened by getting corrective material with the contractor. As we speak, during the course of this week, the contractor will be redeploying equipment on site, and the rehabilitation process that was put on hold will be commencing as early as Monday next week
