Condolences for ANC MP Violet Siwela

Condolences are pouring in for the late ANC MP Violet Siwela who died after spending a few days hospitalised in an intensive care unit. At the time of her passing, Siwela was serving as the chairperson of the Powers and Privileges Committee.

National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Amos Masondo praised Siwela as a passionate lawmaker who was committed to the emancipation of the majority of poor South Africans. The last time Siwela appeared in Parliament was on Monday this week where she informed the members of her committee about the state of her health.

The Presiding Officers of Parliament have conveyed their condolences to the family of Siwela. Siwela passed away today after spending a few days in the intensive care unit in hospital.

Mapisa-Nqakula and Masondo have expressed their profound sorrow at the untimely passing of Siwela. She became a member of Parliament in 2019 and served in various portfolios including also chairing the Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development.

Mapisa-Nqakula and Masondo described Siwela as someone who was passionate about economic emancipation of the previously marginalised majority in South Africa.
