Cold front approaches Western Cape

A strong cold front is expected to reach Cape Town and surrounding areas on Friday afternoon.

The cold front, which will coincide with the winter solstice, will be characterized by extremely strong winds that will mainly affect the Western and Northern Cape.

Rain is expected to set in Cape Town by Friday, with the highest rainfall amounts expected in the mountainous regions of the southwestern Cape.

The South African Weather Service says freezing levels are expected to drop which will allow for snow on the mountains and light snowfalls around Sutherland in the Northern Cape.
