Police make breakthrough in investigation into corruption at CoCT’s human settlements directorate

The police’s commercial crimes and anti-gang units have made a breakthrough in a fraud and corruption investigation at the City of Cape Town’s human settlements directorate.
Eight suspects have been arrested, including a 46-year-old man who was apprehended in the Eastern Cape on Monday.
Former Human Settlements MMC Malusi Booi’s office was raided by the Hawks last year and he was suspended, before later resigning as a councillor.
At the time, Booi indicated he would spend time at his farm in the Eastern Cape.
“The arrests are part of a protracted investigation by the SAPS commercial crimes unit and anti-gang unit investigators that saw police seizing items from the City of Cape Town offices in March 2023.”
The police’s Novela Potelwa said that three other suspects were taken into custody in Johannesburg and four in Cape Town.
All eight suspects are expected to appear in court in Cape Town on Wednesday.
