Clients can do business as usual during lockdown: Banking Association

The Banking Association has put forward a list of operational services during the nationwide coronavirus lockdown. The association says all essential services will remain open. Banking clients will be able to contact call centres as usual. ATM’s will be operational and will have enough cash and SASWITCH fees have been waived.

That means customers can use any ATM and will only pay the usual fees charged by their bank. Banks will also keep as many branches open as necessary.

But they will have less staff and clients are being asked to be patient. Meanwhile, finance union Sasbo gave banks a deadline to respond to its concerns over the impact of the nationwide lockdown on its members. Sasbo General-Secretary Joe Kokela said they are also concerned about transport for members to and from work. We do not believe that banks are essential service as per the labour relations at of this country,” he said.
