City of Tshwane and Samwu set to meet over ongoing strike

The City of Tshwane and Samwu are set to meet again to address the ongoing workers strike.

Since the commencement of the strike, more than 90 employees have been dismissed.

The City is set to appear in court to secure a contempt of court order.

This action follows the labor court’s ruling that the strike is both illegal and unlawful.

The City has obtained funding approval from the National Treasury, enabling a gradual raise in municipal workers’ salaries.

However, Treasury has outlined stringent conditions for the disbursement of funds.

These conditions include a 25 percent expense reduction, a 95 percent increase in revenue, and a decrease in contracted services.

Simultaneously, the union-backed by the SACP — is calling for the resignation of Mayor Cilliers Brink.
