City of Joburg reclaims over 50 buildings from hijackers

The City of Johannesburg says it’s confident it will win the war against property hijackers. So far, the Group Forensic and Investigation Services Unit has reclaimed over 50 buildings and returned them to their lawful owners.

Some of the residential properties have turned into hubs for criminal activity. The unit’s spokesperson, Lucky Sindane, says some government officials are involved in these syndicates.

‘When they come to you they produce documents that look legitimate… they’re dealing with a syndicate here.
“We’re grateful to Joburg residents who have faith in us to say we’ve reported these cases to SAPS for years, but nothing has happened,” he said.

“Up to so far, we’ve handed 56 properties to the rightful owners. They tell us who are the hijackers. These hijackers take advantage of poor people coming to the city. It will take time, but we’ll slowly get there. We’re now seeing results
