The City of Cape Town is calling on residents to support its efforts to get the homeless off the streets.
The city has urged the public to stop giving homeless people handouts.
It says this will encourage them to adhere to its rehabilitation initiatives through shelters.
The metro has been struggling to evict people who have occupied properties owned by the state.
Meanwhile, the community living at the Castle of Good Hope has until the end of July to vacate.
“It is critical that existing shelters too remain sustainable. The more resources there are, the more individuals we help. I also want to appeal to the public to get involved,” said the city’s MMC for Community Services and Health, Patricia van der Ross.
