City of Cape Town offers reward for info related to attempts to extort city officials

Cape Town city bosses are offering a reward for information that could help crack an extortion case targeting city officials.
The city said its officials were attacked in Philippi while rolling out the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service in the metro south-east.
A security guard and his patrol dog are receiving medical treatment.
The city’s MMC for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said increasingly, officials have been getting threats from criminals who want to control sub-contracting services.
“I want to make it crystal clear that we will not tolerate violent thuggery, and we will not submit to demands of so-called protection money. Extortion must be stamped out. If not, it will destroy lives, livelihoods, city community projects, and the well-being of us all.”
