Child seriously burnt following fire in Magaliesberg

A child has been seriously burnt while eight houses and a church have also been destroyed following a fire at Buffelspoort in Magaliesberg in North West last night. The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation. The fire has since been contained. North West Fire Protection Association’s Eric Stock says the child is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

He has appealed to the public for help with food and clothing.

“I think it is now time for the provincial government to consider declaring a state of emergency to assist us to repair infrastructure, to help people who have lost everything.”

“We have the case of what we call the Mighty Mountain Men where people go into the mountain with blowers and beaters to try and put out the fire. And one of our heroes went in and while he was protecting other people he lost his own home. This is very concerning and is something that will remain with me for a long time,” adds Stock.
