CFSF welcomes police action in Khayelitsha, wants to see same energy applied in gang-ridden areas

The Cape Flats Safety Forum says while it welcomes the police’s swift action to foil a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Khayelitsha, it hopes police will have the same vigour to deal with gun violence in gang-ridden areas.

Police said they came under gunfire in Town Two while responding to a tip-off about a planned cash-in-transit robbery in the area on Monday night.

Eight would-be robbers were killed, and five others were arrested and are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

High calibre automatic rifles, explosives, and ammunition were found at the scene.

Cape Flats Safety Forum chairperson Abi Isaacs: “As the Cape Flats Safety Forum, we welcome the swift reaction from the multi-disciplinary team that was set up by the South African Police Services in apprehending the alleged suspects, in particular members in terms of information, that were preparing to do a CIT. We salute the South African Police Services on that.”
