NPA struggling to prosecute certain crimes

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it feels like it’s losing the battle in prosecuting certain crimes, including corruption and s.e.xual offences.
NPA head Shamila Batohi says despite high conviction rates, the reality is that South Africans don’t feel safer.
She told Parliament’s Justice Committee that, as crime increases, the number of cases making it to court is declining.
Batohi highlighted some of the challenges the authority is trying to resolve.
“We all recognize that these complex cases take time,” she said.
“We are looking at dealing better with those.”
