Bloemfontein Celtic fans chant Pitso Mosimane’s name

Bloemfontein Celtic have been rejuvenated under the watch of new coach Steve Komphela, and are hard to beat. You would think, after a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, that Bloemfontein Celtic fans would be upset about the two points dropped.

In fact, they’ve lost just one game in the Absa Premiership, against Maritzburg United, this season, and are sitting pretty in the fourth position on the log with 14 points after seven games – just two behind leaders Wits.

PITSO MOSIMANE

But on Wednesday night, after the 0-0 stalemate with Masandawana, the Phunya Sele Sele supporters chanted Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane’s name in an enthralling atmosphere at the Dr Molemela Stadium.

Mosimane and some of his players such as Hlompho Kekana and Thapelo Morena joined in with the dancing and singing, with the coach calling in his counterpart Komphela as well.

Celtic fans are renowned as being one of the best supporter groups among the PSL teams in the country. But the former Bafana Bafana player and coach wasn’t too pleased with the disallowed goal by Lebohang Maboe in the 82nd minute.

The assistant referee ruled that Themba Zwane was offside when Jose Ali Meza whipped in a cross, but Zwane had not interfered with play when Maboe buried the ball into the back of the net.

“We tried, we controlled the game, and we did well. It’s just sad, because Lebo scored the goal,” Mosimane said with a wry smile to SuperSport afterwards.

“We won the game! Mshishi (Zwane) is not interfering with the play, he is not even touching the ball. We won the game! It’s sad, but what can we do.

“You know, when we lost in the semi-final of the MTN8, Cape Town City won with an offside goal. We were out of the top eight and they won the cup. That’s the way it is. It’s true, it is a fact.”
