Cause of Charlotte Maxeke hospital fire still unknown

Ten months later the cause of the fire at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospital in Johannesburg is still unknown. Gauteng government officials on Thursday gave an update on developments surrounding the ongoing project to fix the hospital.
Head of Communications at Office of the Premier, Thabo Masebe said “the cause of fire we also eagerly waiting for report on investigations that are being conducted”. The National Health Department has been roped in to repair the hospital.
According to Ayanda Dakela, the head of infrastructure for the department, the hospital repair project will be completed by the end of 2023.
The department has been criticised for being slow to start repairs some ten months later.
Professor Adam Mahomed, Head of Internal Medicine, welcomed the announcement but insisted on firm deadlines being set.
